A famous Ebonyi-based pastor, Simeon Ononogbu, blamed the “deceitful” spirit for the failed prophecy that the Super Falcons will reach the FIFA Women’s World Cup semi-finals in France.
In an interview, Mr Ononogbu, a self-acclaimed forecaster, predicted that the Falcons would reach the tournament’s semi-finals, while France’s hosts would place fifth (the best-placed quarter-finalists).
The former secretary of the Nigerian Christian Association (CAN), branch of Ebonyi, sought Nigerians ‘ knowledge of the failed prophecy, stating he would be more cautious about future prophecies.
“It is a pity that the prediction on the Falcons failed which means that it was not a revelation from God.
“We have so many spirits that can deceive people and if we are not careful, we will make mistakes such as this,” he said.
He said there were plenty of spirits that acted like the spirit of God to speak and deceive God’s people.
“The bible says that some spirits at times, transform into angels of light to talk to us.
“We have “fallen’’ spirits that deceive the children of God because we are humans and weaker than the other spirits,” he said.
However, Mr Ononogbu disclosed that the Falcons prophecy might also have failed because he failed to correctly interpret the revelation.
“At times when we don’t interpret properly, we will have problems out of it and this can also be seen as a wrong interpretation,” he said.
However, he insisted that the revelation of France placing fifth in the tournament, despite the failed prophecy, still stands because it comes from God.
“This particular interpretation was clearer than that of the Falcons and we should wait till the end of the competition for its fulfilment,” he said.
Mr Ononogbu encouraged Nigerians not to judge him with the failed prophecy as he had rightly made eight meaningful prophecies fulfilled.
“I earlier predicted the visit of Rev, Uma Ukpai to Ebonyi and those who refused to heed the directive on the venue saw the number of people that died,” he said.
