Gona app introduced in UNILAG for transport fare payment

On Friday, some students at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) lauded the use of a mobile application to pay transportation tickets in and out of Akoka, Lagos ‘ main university campus.

The students, who spoke to us in separate interviews, said Gona application introduction eased transportation fare payments for students and other members of the university community.

Bus drivers on the Yaba-UNILAG route use the Gona application prominently.

Bimbo Adams, a Faculty of Education student, said the app makes it easy to pay transportation workers without any disputes associated with collecting transportation tickets.

“The fare is N70 from Yaba to Unilag. People often have change problems, but Gona has reduced that,” she said.

Another student, Rilwan Ajao, said that with the introduction of the app, the arguments that often arise between students and commercial shuttle drivers were removed.

“You don’t have to fight any driver these day because the app makes it easy to pay easily and conveniently.”

However, another student, Alice, lamented that she was not using the app because she was unable to run it on her phone. She instructed the app’s designers to upgrade it to allow it to run on as many devices as possible.

Gona is proud to be a leading mobile payment provider offering scalable mobile payment solutions for Nigerian merchants and consumers. We also noted that the application’s introduction made it easy for students to access financial services, thereby facilitating financial inclusion.

The World Bank identifies financial inclusion as a facilitator for seven of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Thank you!
