Five people were killed, several houses burnt in new violence in Taraba

Five people were murdered on Tuesday and several homes were burned in Taraba Local Government Area in Rafinkada Village in a new crisis between the Tiv and Jukuns.

In an interview with reporters in Jalingo, Daniel Adidas, Council Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, verified the development.

He claimed that the army camouflage militants were attacking Rafinkada and setting ablaze several buildings.

The chairman reported that at an unspecified hospital in Wukari, a soldier wounded in the attack is presently receiving treatment.

He said soldiers ‘ deployment in the region brought the situation under control.

The incident was verified by David Missal, Police Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, but  one individual was murdered

“The report I have indicated that armed militia youth crossed from Benue State and attacked a community in Wukari LGA and one person was killed and some houses burnt,” the spokesperson said.

The Jukun-Tiv ethnic crisis has persisted since March 2019, particularly in the border villages between Benue and Taraba states.

The rift claimed hundreds of life and caused several properties worth billions of naira to be destroyed.
