Just 24 hours after gunmen murdered a female undergraduate in Ise Ekiti, another male resident was hacked to death by gunmen in Orin Ekiti.
Ekiti State Police Command’s public relations officer, Caleb Ikechukwu, who confirmed the development, informed Ado Ekiti reporters on Saturday that the command is trying hard to apprehend the murderers was doing everything in that direction.
The recent victim was recognized as Emmanuel Ilori, a hunter and rice farmer in the state’s Ido-Osi Local Government Area at Orin Ekiti.
Residents said that, while Ilori and his peers were hunting, Mr Ilori was murdered late Friday by gunmen described as herdsmen.
One of the hunters, Adeniyi Ajayi, said that the killers of Mr Ilori were herdsmen of Fulani and that they numbered over 20.
He said that when the hunters questioned them on their task in the farming group of Ekiti, the murderers opened fire.
Mr Ajayi said the herdsmen were hibernating in the community’s forests for a long time, terrorizing the community’s landowners and others.
Security agents had taken Ilori’s body back after the incident had been reported to them.
The recent murder, has triggered protests among Orin Ekiti inhabitants with demands for the government to stop the incessant murders.
The demonstrators created bonfires and rained curses on Ilori’s murderers in the midst of lamentations about the nationwide herdsmen’s constant killing of farmers.
