5 Thrills and 3 Kiddie Rides to Try at Yas Waterworld Yas Island

Yas Waterworld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi is one of the best water parks in Abu Dhabi for families. It is not a mere pool complex but a full-fledged mega water park that spans 37 acres.

About Yas Waterworld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

The theme park brings Arabian Nights into life with its sand-colored forts and edifices, as well as the occasional dhows floating in the Mina Al Jewana lagoon at Qaryat Al Jewana Souk (also known as Dana’s Village). A man-made “mountain,” called Pearl Crag, stands guard over Jebel Yas Village (a.k.a., Jebel Zone) and serves as a platform for the 10-story body slides.

Pearl Crag evokes the rocky mountain peaks of the Hajar Mountains in the eastern part of the UAE. On top, it proudly displays a single, giant pearl, a nod to Abu Dhabi’s past as a pearl fishing village, and a reference to The Legend of the Lost Pearl, the story at the heart of the water park’s theme.

The Legend of The Lost Pearl, In Brief

The story follows Dana, the daughter of the chief of the fictional pearl diving village of Qaryat Al Jewana, as she tries to find and recover the massive pearl from which her village used to derive its wealth. She gets a tip from Bubbles (a dolphin), and her allies Hamlool (a camel), Dhabi (an antelope), and Shaheen (a falcon) help her on her quest. Despite the villainous bandits’ tricks, Dana and her band succeed, the pearl rises from the water, and the village prospers once more.

Now that you know the story, you’ll relate better to the park’s layout, the huge pearl at the summit of Pearl Crag, the ride names, and the park’s characters that sometimes make an appearance during special events.

Award-Winning Park

The theme park is impressive, proving itself deserving of its many awards, including Best Water Theme Park in the International Travel Awards and the Middle East’s Leading Water Park by World Travel Awards. It has over 60 rides, slides, and experiences designed for varying thrill levels. The park is also only 15 minutes away by car from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Will you enjoy Yas Waterworld? Well, if you’re a family who likes water, thrills, and theme parks, you’re in for a really good time.

The Most Thrilling Rides (Top 5)

Yas Waterworld offers high-intensity attractions that will make you scream your lungs out (with glee).

Liwa Loop

Liwa Loop is a looping-style body-speed slide that begins with a dramatic trap door launch capsule. A sudden drop once the hatch gives way, then you will go on a high-speed free fall through a loopy water-slide tube. You’ll be going so fast you’ll be thankful for the closed chute that’s keeping you “grounded”.

The Liwa Loop is strictly for guests who are at least 1.2 meters tall and weigh between 40kg and 136kg.

Dawwama

Designed for groups, Dawwama is a fast-paced raft ride that accommodates up to six riders. You and your friends or family can all go. Experience swift downward dips and sudden turns and, of course, the rapid, tornado-like swirling in the funnel approach.

Dawwama has a minimum height requirement of 1.3 m.

Bubbles Barrel

Bubbles Barrel is a surfing-inspired attraction where you will face up to three-meter-high sheet waves coming at you at high speeds. If you love surfing, this attraction is for you, but first, you must get certified capable at Rush Rider before you’re allowed on Bubbles Barrel.

You must be at least 1.4 m tall to try Bubbles Barrel.

Jebel Drop

Jebel Drop is the answer if you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to fall almost straight down a steep, 10-story water slide. It has an open flume, so it offers spectacular park views. Regrettably, you’re unlikely to have the time, energy, and desire to look around as you zip and scream all the way down.

Jebel Drop requires a minimum height of 1.2 m.

Hamlool’s Humps

Yes, it’s named after Hamlool the camel, Dana’s friend. This body-speed, open-flume slide has two humps, like a camel. These humps will interrupt your high-speed, 10-story descent and send you airborne for a few moments before your body thankfully makes contact with the slide again.

You must be at least 1.2 m tall to be allowed on Hamlool’s Humps.

Child-Friendly Rides (Top 3)

Families with young children will find dedicated zones for the little ones.

Marah Fortress

This is a water playground for kids up to 12 years old. It features multiple kiddie slides, dumping buckets, water geysers, and water cannons. Children below 0.9 m must be accompanied by a responsible person.

Yehal

Yehal is an activity pool. Children can enjoy multiple slides and water play features, while their companions can relax nearby while keeping an eye on them. Children 1.1 m tall or shorter and children eight years old or younger must be accompanied by a responsible person.

Tot’s Playground

Designed specifically for the youngest visitors, this is an interactive activity pool featuring three small slides and a dumping bucket. It provides a safe environment for toddlers to engage with loads of water features. Children below five years must be at least 1.1 m tall to ride the slides.
