Gunmen stormed a five-star hotel in Gwadar’s southwestern port city in Pakistan, triggering a shoot-out with security forces, officials said on Saturday.
The gun battle lasted for two hours inside the Pearl Continental hotel and it is unclear if there are any casualties, local police chief Aslam Bangulzai said.
The hotel compound was cordoned off by police and paramilitary troops, Bangulzai added.
Gwadar’s port is part of a Chinese $ 62 billion project to build Middle East, Africa, and Europe trade routes.
Islamist militant violence has witnessed an increase in recent weeks.
