VSO International Early Childhood Primary Teachers Jobs Vacancies in Rwanda

Rwanda has
experienced major changes in its education system, and its Government now has
ambitious plans to transform its quality and reach.  Working in
partnership with the Ministry of Education in Rwanda, VSO is supporting the
development of education curriculum for pre-primary year children. To support
our programme objectives, VSO is seeking to recruit 14 primary teachers with
focus on Early Childhood to help improve the quality of pre-primary education
teaching.

You’ll work in Teacher Training Colleges (TTC) and Education
Development Centres (EDC) to ensure that trainee and in-service teachers have
the skills, confidence and capabilities to deliver quality early years teaching
practice.

What does the role
involve?
  • Working
    in Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) and Education Development Centres
    (EDCs) to ensure resources are operational and accessible for all trainee
    and in-service teachers;
  • Coaching
    TTC methodology tutors to ensure they are capable of training student
    teachers on active and child-centred methods of teaching and supporting
    pre-service teachers in active methods and resource development;
  • Ensuring
    EDCs are used by in-service teachers and offering training in active
    methods and resource development;
  • Supporting
    the Kigali Institute of Education in the development of EDC curriculum
    guides for use in TTCs;
  • Maintaining
    and reporting systematic evidence of inputs, outputs and outcomes of the
    programme interventions.
Skills,
qualifications and experience required
  • A
    pre-primary or Primary Teaching qualification;
  • You’ll
    need at least two years of teaching experience with children within the
    4-6 age group or you are a primary teacher with at least five years of
    teaching experience within the age group 6 years and older; 
  • Experience
    with teacher training and monitoring/evaluation methods is also desirable;
  • French
    speaking is beneficial but not essential;
  • Self-motivated
    and well-organised, you will need to be culturally sensitive with strong
    interpersonal and communication skills and the confidence to create
    positive relationships in diverse working environments.

The local languages
are French and Kinyarwanda, with English being introduced as a taught language;
VSO will provide necessary language training and support. We’ll provide you
with extensive training before your placement, and our financial package
includes a local living allowance, return flights and accommodation. When you
return to your home country, we’ll support you to resettle.
We anticipate 14
roles will be required in Rwanda for January 2014, however we’re keen to hear
from early years and primary teachers for other opportunities coming on stream
