Vi Agroforestry Accountant Job Vacancy in Rwanda

Vi Agroforestry is a
non-profit organization and has no party-political or religious affiliations.
In Sweden, Vi Agroforestry is registered as a foundation under the name Vi
Planterar trad. The offices in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda are branch
offices and registered in the respective country under the name Vi
Agroforestry.

Vi Agroforestry
works with small-scale farmers in Lake Victoria’s catchment area in Kenya,
Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. Since 2012, Vi Agroforestry participates in a new
project in Malawi.

Vi Agroforestry
seeks to hire a qualified dedicated and experienced national for the position
of Accountant. This
is a strategic position based at the head office-Kigali and reports to the
Country Manager.

Description

The overall purpose
of this position is to ensure proper and efficient management of inflow and
outflow as well as efficient accountability of project funds. The accountant is
responsible for all accounting routines and systems within the project. He/she
shall ensure that the project always has adequate funds available for use at
any time and shall maintain accurate official records of all project finances
and financial transactions and present a monthly break-down and balance sheet to
the project manager and also prepare budget/fund requirements on a monthly
basis.

Key
responsibilities

  • Expected
    to propagate and support the interests of Vi Agroforestry in all
    decisions.
  • Ensure
    payments of invoices, bills, receipts, etc. according to approved
    procedures.
  • Prepare
    the monthly/annual returns of statutory deductions as is required by law.
  • Through
    responsible head of respective units and managers, estimate and prepare
    monthly budgets for requests of funds.
  • Ensure
    that all accounting records are batched, kept safely and ready for review
    at any time.
  • Ensure
    regular backup of computerized accounts.
  • Ensure
    that fixed assets are in good condition and insured.
  • Ensure
    that assets, documents and cash are kept safely.
  • Ensure
    that the program is financially accountable and transparent.
  • Prepare
    annual financial accounts in accordance to international accounting
    standards.
  • Implement
    auditors (internal and external) recommendations and handle annual and
    replenishment audits.
  • Assist
    country manager and all unit heads in preparation of annual budgets as
    well as monitoring and updating budget utilization.
  • Prepare
    monthly financial statements.
  • Supervise
    immediate subordinates.
  • Notify
    the country manager immediately upon discovery of any discrepancies in any
    transactions or financial recording whatsoever.
  • Prepare
    the monthly financial accounts and others reports and send to Programme
    Director and Stockholm office.
  • As a
    member of the management team, offer leadership in order to harness the
    available resources towards the set targets and in consistence to Vi
    Agroforestry vision, mission and goals.
  • Work
    according to the programme employment policy, which he/she must have read
    and signed.
  • Monitor
    a proper use of the project resources.
  • Prepare
    monthly, quarterly and annual budget cost analysis reports and forward
    them to unit heads and the project manager.
  • Provide
    routinely advice to the management on action plans and challenges within
    your portfolio.
  • Undertake
    project procurement in accordance with SIDA procurement policies.
  • Maintain
    updated project store inventories i.e. stationary, field materials etc.
  • Ensure
    that marginalised groups are given the same opportunities and are
    encouraged to participate in activities on equal terms as non marginalised
    people.
  • Ensure
    adherence to the Vi Agroforestry operating procedures.
  • Ensure
    that the Vi Agroforestry activities comply with the relevant government
    laws.
  • Carry
    out any other duties assigned by the Head of Administration or country
    manager.

Qualifications:

Education/Knowledge/Technical
skills and experience

The following
knowledge, skills and abilities may be acquired through a combination of formal
schooling, self-education prior experience or on-job training

Minimum
qualification required: University Degree majoring in Accounting or Finance and
CPA.

Experience:

  • Minimum
    of 5 years of progressive work experience in Finance and Accounting
  • Practical
    experience in working with NGO’s or Sida funded projects
  • Experiencing
    in Administration, organizing and managing programs that achieve results
  • Extensive
    travel required within the region; must be willing to travel and work with
    partner organizations

Technical
skills& abilities

  • Specialized
    training in Accounting or Finance and 5 years experience in Administration
  • Proven
    ability to conceptualize, innovate and plan strategically
  • Can
    operate Microsoft software applications such as word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Fluency
    in English required
  • Excellent
    communication skills, both in oral and written
  • Salary
