Climate Action Niagara is an incorporated, non-partisan, non-profit organization that provides opportunities for education and actions on issues relating to climate change, for improved health and community resiliency.

Climate Action Niagara is seeking an enthusiastic person who is familiar with community food security, urban agriculture, the reintroduction of native species, and urban sustainability education, to join our team. This contract is for approx 22 hrs/wk for 30 weeks for Year 1 and with reduced hours in years 2 and 3.

The Urban Agriculture & School Scapes Program Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director to develop and implement educational initiatives on food security capacity building and to facilitate the School Scapes Program (eco education that provides the reintroduction of native plants to school/ church/ daycare properties while developing community stewardship for shaded healthy, active spaces.

This includes:
• Public Outreach for Volunteers, Clients, and Community Network
• Facilitate Community Engagement
• Business Partner Development, Liaise with Existing Partners
• Manage Material Requirements for Program Budget, Track Participation
• Marketing, Event Organization
• Education
• Facilitation of Gardening, Food Preservation, Conservation and Eco Workshops
• Assist with Fundraising as Needed
• Provide Administrative, Research and Program Support
• Program Evaluation

The coordinator will facilitate the construction and oversight of multiple community gardens in financially challenged districts and will involve members of the community in the gardens and school yards (volunteers, program participants, vulnerable adults, seniors, children and youth) and deliver educational programming.

Qualifications:
• Some post secondary education
• Strong environmental background
• Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
• One to three years relevant experience
• Experience working in gardens, plant identification, and superior gardening skills
• Crisis intervention and conflict resolution skills
• Experience working with people who are marginalized and all ages with kindness and consideration
• Knowledge of community resources
• Experience coordinating logistics and organizing of community events
• Ability to organize work and time effectively
• Neat and clean personal presentation, good communication skills
• First aid training an asset
• A valid driver’s license is required.
