United
Way of Calgary and Area is looking for a full-time Communications Advisor to
join the Marketing.Media.Communications (MMC) team within United Way of
Calgary and Area. Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the role of Communications
Advisor
is to bring strategic communications to United Way’s Community
Investments and Collaborations (CI&C) work.
The
Core Competency characteristics every member of United Way is expected to
possess are Client/Customer Value Creation, Planning & Organizing, Change
Management, Innovative Outlook, Communication & Influence and Leadership
Capability. 
Duties
& Responsibilities
  • Develop
    strategies to communicate the unique values of United Way.
  • Develop
    and write stories for United Way initiatives and events.
  • Work
    cross-functionally with key leaders and content experts across the
    organization to identify and manage issues, to develop stories,
    statements, background briefs and talking points.
  • Assist
    in the creation and writing of the organization’s annual impact report.
  • Assist
    the Manager of Communications in developing specific project, initiative,
    event or issue management communications.
  • Lead
    the content developing of key collateral pieces such as Community Impact
    Report, United Way Investments, profile one-page and donor reports.
Experience
and Skills
  • A
    Degree in Marketing and Communications or Public Relations.
  • Strategic
    thinking and planning skills.
  • Experience
    in developing creative strategies and tactics that support business goals
    and objectives.
  • Ability
    to lead and manage projects independently and as part of a team.
  • IABC
    accreditation is as asset.
  • Proven
    experience in media and public relations.
  • Very
    strong writing and storytelling ability (in a variety of styles).
  • Knowledge
    and experience in social media development.
  • People
    and project management skills.
  • Strong
    proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint 2010; Proficiency in Adobe
    (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere) an asset.
