Background
For many years, the UN has faced serious challenges in its efforts to promote
gender equality globally, including inadequate funding and no single recognized
driver to direct UN activities on gender equality issues.

UN Women was created to address such challenges. It will be a dynamic and
strong champion for women and girls, providing them with a powerful voice at
the global, regional and local levels.
Grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the UN Charter, UN Women, among
other issues, works for the:
elimination of discrimination against women and girls;
empowerment of women; and
achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of
development, human rights , humanitarian action and peace and security.
The JPO will be supervised by the Deputy Representative and will be part of the
Women’s Leadership and Participation team but work closely also with the
Operations Manager for programme monitoring and will cooperate with the interagency
task force set up to work on Adolescent Girls.
As part of the UN Women JPO programme overall framework, the JPO will benefit
from the following training and learning opportunities:
Participation in a two-week long UNDP Programme Policy and Operations Induction
Course in New York within the first 3 to 6 months of assignment
Use of yearly JPO duty-related travel and training allocation (DTTA), as per
the online DTTA guide
Other training and learning opportunities, as available in UN Women
Dar-Es-Salaam is a family Duty Station

Duties and Responsibilities
The JPO/ Adolescent Girls Programme Coordinator will be responsible for the
following functions:
To develop a work plan on UN Women’s involvement in the AGI programme
together with the UN Women Senior Advisors.
To coordinate programming, monitoring and reporting on the AGI
To provide timely and relevant analysis and recommendations to the program team
and for the Representative for the Heads of Agency level coordination meetings.
To document and share information both internally and externally through UN
Delivering as One mechanisms on the program implementation, as required.
To represent UN Women at all AGI related events and meetings.
To support implementing partners- mainly locally based NGOs as well as
engagement with key sector ministries including Ministry of Community
Development Gender and Children and the Ministry of Constitutional and Legal
Affairs.
Prepare a monitoring and evaluation plan for the various program areas.
Any other additional duties as assigned by the UN Women Country Representative.

Required Skills and Experience
Required Education:
Master’s Degree or equivalent Advanced Degree in a relevant field of
expertise
Minimum of University Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies or other
relevant field.Gender studies or focus on youth and development an added
advantage

Work Experience:
Minimum two (2) years work experience in project/programme implementation in
field relevant to the area of work, preferably in relation to youth and
development or youth leadership.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Danish. Kiswahili an advantage but not a requirement.

Nationality:
Exclusive for: Danish nationals and other European Union nationals with
permanent residency in Denmark
