Electricity Generation Compa
ny Ltd was incorporated in March 2001 under the
Companies Act, 2012 on the basis of the Public Enterprises Reform and
Divestiture Act, Cap 98 and Electricity Act, Cap 145 respectively. UEGCL is
wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda. UEGCL’s key role is
to – carry on the business of electric power generation and sale within Uganda
or for export to neighbouring countries; build, operate
and maintain Electricity Generation Plants; monitor the operation and
maintenance of its Concessioned Assets – Nalubaale and Kiira Power Stations;
provide Technical Support as and when required by the Government of the
Republic of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development;
organize, support, encourage and maintain training facilities in technical and
related fields, amongst others.
Summary: The Human Resource Manager will oversee the Human Resources
Department of the Company delivering on the functions of human resources
planning and management, human resources development, performance management,
compensation & benefits, recognition & reward systems, employee
relations, professional advisory support to line managers in the development
and retention of the suited human capital and the overall positioning of the
Company’s human resources in supporting the attainment of the Company’s
strategic goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Human Resource planning for the Company
to support the attainment of the strategic objectives set by the Board
from time time - In charge of the development and implementation of a
suited training and development strategy for the Company - Managing Organizational effectiveness
- In charge of the development and implementation of a
comprehensive strategy for- the management of the Company’s Knowledge - Development and implementation of employee performance
and productivity strategies - Responsible for the development and implementation of a
recognition and reward system - Provision of advisory technical support to Management on
matters related to the development and retention of the Company’s human
capital - In charge of strategic deployment of human capital to
support the changing business requirements of the Company - Ensure the development and implementation of an
effective grievance management system and disciplinary mechanism for the
Company - In charge of the preparation of Human Resource related
Reports, budgets and work plans - In charge of instituting and implementing an effective
performance appraisal system - Identification of knowledge and skills gaps in the
company from time to time and advising Management on the same - Supporting the Internal Audit function in identifying,
mitigating and management of Human Resource related risks - Development, review, updating and implementation of
relevant Human Resource and Employee relation policies in liaison with the
Company Secretary - Management of employee cost controls
- Development and administration of a competitive
compensation and benefits structure for the Company - Establishment and maintenance of Human Resource Information Systems
- Supporting the Company Secretary in ensuring the compliance
with Laws, Regulations, rules relating to Human Resource Management issues
and the management of the Employer-Employee relations - Development and implementation of a comprehensive Exit
Procedures System - In charge of the development and administration of
effective recruitment systems (policies , processes and tools) in order to
attract the right talent, skills and competencies for the Company based on
the changing business requirements - Oversight of Restructuring, downsizing processes as and
when required - Responsible for occupational, health and safety of the
staff and development and administration of the requisite systems - Identify the ethical and social responsibility
requirements for the Company and its employees and develop suited systems - Advising Management and staff on matters related to
Human Resource Management
Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate for the career placement should hold a Bachelor’s degree
in Human Resource Management or related discipline like Social Sciences,
Business Administration. Possession of a Master’s Degree in Human Resource
Management is a requirement. - Relevant
professional qualification in Human Resource Management will be an added
advantage - A
minimum of seven or more years’ experience in handling Human Resource
Management matters at Senior Management Level - Past
experience in using Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) and
Microsoft Office applications - Working knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations
relating to Human Resource Management - Working knowledge and experience in modern Human
Resource Management & Development best practices - Possess the ability to understand performance appraisal
processes - Past experience in a Senior Management role for a
minimum of four years - High
