TRACKS is a new initiative developed in partnership with the Indigenous Environmental Studies (IES) Program at Trent University, and the Kawartha World Issues Centre. TRACKS is a multifaceted youth outreach program which aims to:

• provide opportunities for aboriginal youth of all ages to engage with math and science in meaningful, culturally appropriate and educationally stimulating ways,
• positively impact and work to reverse the current trend of underrepresentation of aboriginal students pursuing studies in science-related fields at the senior secondary and post-secondary levels, and
• create and deliver unique, fun, educational, and hands-on experiential cultural and science programming in an informal setting for aboriginal youth in the Peterborough and surrounding areas.

TRACKS is seeking 4 motivated individuals to form a summer outreach team which will assist with the coordination and delivery of the 2012 TRACKS program. This team will work closely with the TRACKS Program Director to develop and implement the camp program, as well as deliver workshops.

Responsibilities
• Participating in mandatory staff training (early May)
• Planning outreach activities and summer program schedule
• Assisting with development of program policies and risk management plan
• Liaising and coordinating with community organizations, schools and local First Nation communities under direction from the TRACKS Program Director
• Participating in design of camp and workshop curriculum
• Working within camp budget to plan for and purchase supplies needed for program operation
• Traveling to communities to deliver workshops, special events and camp educational programming
• Being responsible for care of campers while they are participating in the camp program
• Delivering educational curriculum in a fun and innovative manner, while engaging the campers and participants in hands-on science, math and traditional knowledge activities
• Keeping accurate records and completing camp and incident reports
• Assisting with TRACKS communication, fundraising, evaluation and reporting, including regularly reporting to the TRACKS Program Director
• Troubleshooting and ensuring smooth operation of programs
• Other duties as assigned by TRACKS Program Director

• Experience working in/with aboriginal communities
• Experience with Indigenous cultural knowledge/awareness
• Experience working in summer camps and/or youth programs
• Background in environmental science, math, or other science discipline
• Must be willing to travel
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, with some evening and weekend hours, as well as overnight shifts when required

Other Qualifications
• Valid driver’s license an asset
• Candidates must provide references
• Candidates will submit a police / criminal background check prior to employment
