The victory over South Korea by Qatar in the quarter-final on Friday was not only celebrated in Qatar but also at North London by Tottenham fans as they had being praying for an early exit of the South Korean team to facilitate an early return of their forwarder Son Heung-min.
The crashing out of South Korea from the Asian Cup by the hand of the Qatari team is more than a prayer answered to the fans of the North London Club as Tottenham fans have anticipated the early return of Son Heung-min to salvage their team after the injury to Harry Keane and Dele Alli.
Tottenham prolific striker, Harry Keane is currently down with ankle injury while their attacking midfielder, Dele Alli is currently suffering from hamstring injury. Neither of them is likely to be available to play for the North London side until March at the very least. The absence of Harry Keane, Dele Alli and Son during the Asian Cup tournament left the attack line of Tottenham Hotspur stocks threadbare. However, the return of Son after the unexpected early exit of South Korea form the Asian Cup for the home match against Watford next Wednesday lightens the gloom of the fans of the North London team.
Although not what the fans of Tottenham Hotspur wanted, the return of Son gave them a little respite. How well Son will be fit to play for Tottenham Hotspur remains the next question as the South Korean captain had complained of extreme fatigue during the twelve (12) days he was away at the Asian Cup tournament.
Son, complained of not being prepared enough for the Asian Cup tournament, being drained physically, and after their 1-0 loss to Qatar, he had complained of losing sleep and regretted of not having taken proper care of himself.
Speaking of this outing in the tournament which many sports’ analysts expected South Korea as one of the favourite to lift the trophy, Son regrettably state that, “I thought I would start to feel better but it didn’t happen. I know a lot of people expected big things out of our team. I was so mad at myself for not being able to play well. I think we ended up getting this result because of my play.”
Son wasn’t not just disappointed on their performance but for the fact that they missed out of the opportunity to actualise their hopes of a first continental title in 59 years considering the current form of the South Korean team and he is worried if ever they can put together a team as good as this in the next tournament.
