EcoSchools is a comprehensive program that engages staff, students, and parents in taking leadership and action to build a healthy and sustainable future. The program includes a certification process for schools wishing to assess their environmental performance in a limited number of areas.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Sustainability, the EcoSchools Certification Specialist will provide support to schools working towards becoming certified as a bronze, silver, gold or platinum EcoSchool.

Summary of Duties:
• Manage all aspects of the EcoSchools certification process including:
– receiving and evaluating certification applications submitted from schools
– providing a summary of recommendations for each school
– conducting on-site audits
– organizing and assisting with the facilitation of workshops and other related professional development sessions
– updating the scoring system annually

• Develop ongoing rapport (e.g. determining and documenting best practices, answering questions, providing advice) with individual EcoTeams in schools through individual on-site consultations, phone conversations and e-mail exchanges;
• Make general presentations about EcoSchools (e.g. how to become certified) to various audiences (e.g. school staff, school councils, student councils, central support staff);
• Participate in the ongoing development of the EcoSchools program;
• Provide ongoing communication using Direct Line, the EcoSchools section of the public website, direct mailing/emailing, and the EcoSchools e-newsletter;
• Help maintain positive working relationships with existing Board partners and find ways of working collaboratively with other external groups (including government agencies and non-governmental organizations); and
• Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
• University degree in a related field (e.g. Environmental Studies or Environmental Science) with one year of experience developing and managing major projects in the environmental field or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Ability to communicate in a sensitive, courteous manner with students, parents, staff, community members and the general public with a customer service focus;
• Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team;
• Strong writing, presentation and facilitation skills;
• Experience developing and managing major environmental or educational projects at a board, municipal, provincial or federal level;
• Computer literacy (word processing, email, presentation tools, database, spread sheet, project management tools etc); and
• Strong organizational and project management skills.

Special Requirements:
• Provision of own vehicle for Board Business;
• Frequent travel across the TDSB sites; and
• Ability to work evenings in order to meet client needs.

Location: This position will be located at Oakburn Centre, 15 Oakburn Crescent (not wheelchair accessible).

Hours: 35 hours per week
