SALARY RANGE: Range 1 $16.97 – $19.13

per hour (40 hour work week).

SUMMARY
OF FUNCTION:

To
provide general labour assistance in a dynamic team environment with the
implementation of restoration projects and habitat creation, including wetland
construction, stream restoration and shoreline enhancement. Candidates will be
exposed to restoration construction projects working around heavy equipment,
learning about the processes of conducting a restoration project, installation
of sediment and erosion control measures, current techniques and best
management practices in restoration implementation, and the safe operation and
maintenance of a wide range of tools and landscape construction equipment.
Provide excellent client and customer service. Working safely is a condition of
employment.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Post-secondary
    education in resource management, environmental and / or engineering
    science, biology, construction or maintenance or a related field, or an
    equivalent combination of education, skills and experience.
  • Knowledge
    of restoration practices and a desire to pursue a career in environmental
    or related field.
  • Experience/aptitude
    for outdoor activities.
  • Ability
    to work outdoors in adverse conditions.
  • The
    ability to identify common flora and fauna.
  • Construction
    experience an asset
  • Familiarity
    with farm and construction equipment, including small tools and larger
    machinery an asset.
  • Valid
    Ontario driver’s license. Class A, Z license an asset.
  • Standard
    First Aid and CPR an asset.
  • Chainsaw
    experience an asset.
SUMMARY
OF MAJOR TASKS:
Perform
the following tasks under direct supervision:
  1. Assist
    with the implementation of restoration and infrastructure programs including
    wetlands, shorelines, stream restoration, habitat creation, enhancement
    and naturalization.
  2. Assist
    with the construction and deployment of habitat features.
  3. Assist
    with operation and maintenance of equipment, including tractors and
    implements, small gas powered equipment, and some large equipment.
  4. Participate
    in the maintenance of a safe, clean work environment through application
    of good housekeeping practices and in compliance with the TRCA Health and
    Safety Policies and all relevant Federal, Provincial and Municipal
    legislation and regulations.
  5. Other
    duties as assigned.
