Thornbury Farmers Market in Thornbury, Ontario is seeking applications to fill
the position of Market Manager for the 20
16 season (with possibility of
extension). The market takes place on Sundays between May and October and is
entering its second year of operations. Thornbury Farmers Market features a
variety of locally made, baked and grown goods and is quickly becoming a
popular community gathering place.
The Market Manager will work closely with the Steering Committee to foster a
vibrant and viable farmers market in 2016. Specific Market Manger duties
include but are not limited to:
• Managing vendor applications and payments
• Helping to ensure market vendors represent a wide variety of handmade and
locally grown items
• Managing vendor set up and tear down at all markets during the season
• Liaising with vendors and the public to gather feedback and suggestions about
the market
• Organizing special events throughout the market season
• Liaising with community groups to help leverage Thornbury Farmers Market’s
engagement with the community
• Acting as the contact for the Thornbury Farmers Market and managing the email
account, website and social media
• Helping to make the Thornbury Farmers Market a fun and friendly place for
both vendors and the community
The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong interest in local food and community
engagement. Good communication and organizational skills are also very
important to be successful in this position. Candidates must have access to
their own computer, Internet and cellphone and be willing to work from home as
well as onsite at the farmers market.
The position will begin as soon as possible and will continue through to
December 2016. The hours of work will be light to begin and will increase
during the market season. A $2000 annual contract will be awarded to the
successful applicant.
