One (1) Permanent and One (1) Temporary
The Catholic Children’s Aid Society of Toronto seeks two (2) Communications
Specialists (one for a permanent position, one temporary position for
approximately 12 months) with graphic design, web content design, web
maintenance and creative writing experience to join Communications. The
successful candidate will be responsible for the overall design, day to day
operation, content management and maintenance of the Agency’s website. In
addition, you will be involved in a variety of public and media relations
activities including internal and external communications planning;
researching, writing and designing communications materials and event planning.
Duties Include:
- Ongoing
development, content management and maintenance of both the Society and
Hope for Children Fund websites with input from agency departments; - Designs
public relations materials using desktop publishing, scanning and digital
image manipulation software; selects artwork and photographs; and oversees
the production and distribution process with agency users, designers,
translators and printers; - Researches,
writes and edits a variety of public relations materials including matte
articles, newsletters, news releases, backgrounders, key messages, web
content, correspondence; - Prepares
strategic internal and external communications and pro-active media
relations plans; organizes news conferences, co-ordinates CCAS special
events and campaigns, develops social media strategies and content; - Provides
media relations support, including contentious issues management; responds
to media requests for information, as assigned, and public requests for
information regarding agency programs and services; - Undertakes
a range of related responsibilities such as providing photography services
for special events and maintaining photo files; provides administrative
support as required.
Qualifications Required:
- A
degree or diploma in journalism, communications, public relations or
marketing, or the equivalent in education and experience; - A
minimum of 4 to 6 years in a similar type of position, including
experience in working with website development and design; - Previous
experience in media relations a must, specifically dealing with
sensitive/urgent issues with confidence; - Strong
Adobe Photoshop/Flash, Pagemaker, Adobe CS4 Suite, Dreamweaver and
Illustrator skills and an understanding of CSS web standards; - Extensive
knowledge of HTML coding and web site development software; - Strong
understanding of web design and page layout skills; - Advanced
knowledge and demonstrated skill in desktop publishing, and a related
knowledge of graphic design principles, print production, and photography; - Initiative
and creativity in developing written materials, and in graphic design; - Demonstrated
experience in planning strategic internal and external public relations
activities; - Progressive
experience in, or knowledge of, contentious issues management; ·Experience
developing social media strategies and content marketing including
Facebook, Twitter, YouTube; - Proven
media relations skills; - Possesses
excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to communicate
effectively at all levels; - Excellent
written, oral communication skills and interpersonal skills; ·Ability and
skill to plan and co-ordinate events; - Strong
project management and organizational skills; - Demonstrated
understanding of, and commitment to, integrating the values in the CCAS
Mission Statement, the principles of equity, justice, non-discrimination
and accessibility into practice, service delivery and team
relationships.
Assets:
- Knowledge
of the Child and Family Services Act; Principles and practices governing
the context and practice of child protection work in the agency.
