JOB CONTEXT:
HI has been working with Afghan people since the 1980’s, initially in the refugee camps in Pakistan and establishing a national program in Afghanistan in 1996. Today, Handicap International Afghanistan works in the Southern (Kandahar), Western (Herat) and Central (Kabul) regions of Afghanistan in four main sectors:
• Disability advocacy and awareness
• Physical rehabilitation
• Socio-economic inclusion
• Mine risk education
• Disaster Risk Reduction

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Our current team in Afghanistan is made of 200 national staff and 10 expatriates working in 3 sites: Kabul, Herat and Kandahar. You will be based in the central office in Kabul and will work in close interaction with the technical coordinator, other technical advisors and program manager. You will be expected to undertake field visits to HI rehabilitation projects in Herat and Kandahar (if the security situation allows it).

You will ensure the technical assistance to all physical rehabilitation projects in HI Afghanistan program in line with 2011-2015 programme strategy, You will build the capacity of National technical staff in order to take more responsibility and gradually handover them the technical advisory role. You will provide support and capacity building of Afghan Association of Physiotherapy (AAPT) and Afghan National society for Orthotics and Prosthetics (ANSOP) and participate at national level stakeholder coordination meetings and represent Handicap International.

You will also have the key responsibility to guarantee and enhance the technical quality of projects implemented at national and regional levels, by establishing training programmes for staff and partners and developing a network of resources in Physical Rehabilitation.

Your responsibilities are as follow:
• Provide technical assistance to all project manager s in the Afghan programme on Physical rehabilitation
• Develop the technical capacity of the HI National technical advisors and technical staff in Kabul, Herat and Kandahar
• Represent Handicap International among a broad range events and networks and ensure links
• Knowledge management

CANDIDATE PROFILE:
You will have the following in order to be successful:
• Bachelors or master in physiotherapy or occupational therapy and at least 3 years clinical rehabilitation experience
• Demonstrated strong performance in a mentoring or teaching role.
• Thorough understanding of inclusive development processes and good practices .
• Experience in conflict countries or failed states
• Experience in Capacity development of project teams and partner staff

REQUIRED LANGUAGE SKILLS: FLUENT ENGLISH IS MANDATORY

JOB ENVIRONMENT:
 – The position is based in Kabul with frequent travel to provinces – The climate is continental in Kabul, hot, dry summers, cold winters, and high altitude of 1,800 meters. – Kabul offers extremely limited recreational and leisure activities due to the deteriorating security context. – Comfortable accommodation in a secure guest house, close to the office, with other expatriates

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS (depending on experience):
This is an unaccompanied position Salary: 2200 to 2400 € gross salary/month + 457 Euros net expatriation allowance/month + 50% of the medical cover taken in charge by HI + repatriation insurance + indemnity for partner and children + RnR approximately every 2 months outside of the country with some flight tickets paid Volunteer: 750 or 850 Euros monthly indemnity + living allowance paid on the field + accommodation + 100% of the medical cover taken in charge by HI + repatriation insurance + indemnity for partner and children + RnR approximately every 2 months outside of the country with some flight tickets paid
