Stanley Park Ecology Society,Conservation Technician

. SPES is seeking a highly
motivated individual to work closely with the Conservation Projects Manager to
plan, execute, and evaluate conservation projects, to design and undertake
wildlife and habitat surveys and associated reporting, and to facilitate
education and conservation events in Stanley Park.

• Design
  and undertake terrestrial and aquatic wildlife and habitat surveys
  following Resource Inventory Standards Committee (RISC) protocols;
  complete scientific research permit applications and reporting
  requirements;
• Compile,
  analyze, synthesize and incorporate past and current biophysical survey
  results into the 6th year renewal of the State of the Pak Report for the
  Ecological Integrity of Stanley Park (SOPEI);
• Promote,
  schedule and deliver a variety of existing and new conservation and
  restoration event programming and materials to meet the strategic plan;
  manage associated administration;
• Work
  on special or emerging projects arising through funded conservation
  initiatives;
• Coordinate
  and lead volunteers on directed habitat management activities in Stanley
  Park including mapping, research and habitat restoration;
• Map
  restoration sites and habitat using GIS techniques; ensure up to date data
  management and analysis;
• Ensure
  that all programs and activities operate in accordance with Risk
  Management and Safety Standards;
• Assist
  as applicable in program funding pursuits and donor stewardship;
• Document
  all work activities and provide regular reports for communications and
  funders;
• Attend
  SPES meetings and participate in Board/staff planning sessions.

  knowledge of relevant conservation organizations and local, provincial and
  federal conservation priorities;

  knowledge and appreciation of environmental issues and the values and
  mission of the Society;
• Strong
  leadership skills with a collaborative work style.

• Minimum
  education: bachelor’s degree or diploma of technology in wildlife biology,
  ecology, resource management, ecological restoration, or related fields;
• Experience
  applying RISC protocols for biophysical surveys;
• Minimum
  1 year of conducting terrestrial and aquatic biophysical baseline survey
  and monitoring programs;
• Computer
  Skills: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access or similar database; ARCGis an
  asset;
• Willingness
  to get dirty, and frequently working outdoors rain or shine;
• Work
  schedule must be flexible and requires some weekend work;
• Excellent
  organizational skills and able to work independently.
