Sustainable Farming Apprenticeships
Organization: SOIL Apprenticeships http://soilapprenticeships.com
Location: Across Canada
Interested in learning more about organic farming? What better way
than to spend a few months living and working on a local organic farm?
Stewards of Irreplaceable Lands (SOIL) is a Canadian non-profit
organization that helps connect people seeking a hands-on learning
opportunity on a sustainable farm with farmers who want to host them.
Organic and sustainable farm apprenticeships are available across
Canada, and there is still time to apply for a position this summer.
If you are interested in farming and want to learn from an experienced
grower, apprenticeships can offer a life-transforming educational
experience! Whether you’re interested in livestock, market-gardening,
or greenhouse production, there are apprenticeships on farms of all
styles and scales.
The host farms that list with SOIL, all Canadian, represent a wide
variety of focus and practices. You could choose to work with farmers
producing nutritious food for a market garden operation. Discover the
enormous potential of growing healthy vegetables in raised beds, using
natural fertilizers, and biological pest control. Learn the basics of
animal husbandry while apprenticing on a small dairy farm or on the
expanse of a large cattle ranch. Experience first-hand the advantages
that can be gained by working with draft horses or developing the
knowledge and skills necessary to properly care for fruit trees. The
opportunities are endless.
How it works: visit our site to obtain a SOIL membership. After that,
SOIL will work with you to find a farm that suits your learning goals
and interests.
