Position Summary: Sierra Club BC is seeking a temporary full-time
Outreach Assistant for the summer.

Eligibility: This position is funded through the Service Canada Summer
Jobs program, and therefore the applicant must:
• Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
• Have been registered as a full-time student in the previous academic
year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next
academic year;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee
protection has been conferred, and;
• Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant
provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
• All qualified candidates will be considered; however, preference
will be given to Aboriginal candidates.

Working with our Outreach Coordinator, responsibilities will include:
• Promote the Sierra Club BC conservation campaigns through social media
• Promote our work at community events by staffing a Sierra Club BC
table and helping to coordinate volunteers
• Liaise with the Sierra Club BC communications department as needed
• Liaise with the Sierra Club BC’s Local Group Coordinator as needed
• Organize public education events
• Other outreach and communication tasks as agreed to with supervisor

Knowledge/Skills:
• Experience managing social media networks, including daily content
and strategies
• Proven track record in outreach and event planning
• Minimum 1 year post secondary education (college, university),
preferably in the field of Applied Communications, Communications,
Public Relations, Journalism, or Marketing;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Friendly, outgoing, energetic, creative, and cheerful with staff and public
• Ability to represent Sierra Club BC in a professional manner
• Ability to organize time, work independently, take initiative and be
responsible for moving multiple projects forward simultaneously
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), database
skill, internet, social media

Working Conditions: Willingness to have a flexible work schedule,
occasional evenings and/or weekends

Start Date: May 11, 2015

Job Location: The candidate will be based out of the Sierra Club BC
office in Victoria.
