Shared Value Solutions (SVS) is seeking an intermediate consultant
experienced at workin
g with Aboriginal communities on environmental
assessments and regulatory processes, land use planning, strategic
planning, and community economic development. The ideal person will be
entrepreneurial and align with our relationship-based approach to
business development.
SVS’s office is located in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. The position will
involve travel to northern communities; the candidate must be willing
and excited to travel on a regular basis.

Intermediate Consultant
Responsibilities
• Completing environmental assessment processes on behalf of
Aboriginal community clients.
• Assisting with technical peer reviews of regulatory environmental
permitting and approvals reports and applications for pipelines,
energy, mining, waste, and other major infrastructure development
projects.
• Coordinating and carrying out “traditional knowledge” and land use
and occupancy research projects.
• Providing Duty to Consult and strategic negotiation advice to First
Nation, Metis and Inuit community clients as needed.
• Coordinating and providing advice on regulatory environmental
permitting and approvals processes for clients, as needed.
• Responding quickly and empathetically to client needs.
• Report writing and presentations.
• Willingness and interest in assisting on a wide variety of SVS
projects and service offerings on an as needed basis – i.e. being a
“Jack” or “Jill” of all trades.
Qualifications
• At least 3-5 years (approximate) professional experience.
• Experience working successfully with First Nation, Métis, and/or
Inuit communities.
• Experience coordinating and conducting environmental assessments
and/or peer reviews of large-scale environmental assessments in
Canada.
• Strong understanding of Canadian federal, provincial, and
territorial regulatory approvals and permitting processes.
• Qualitative and quantitative research experience, including carrying
out traditional knowledge and land use and occupancy studies.
• Strong project management skills.
• Skills and experience with a relationship-based approach to business
development.
• Excellent report writing skills and ability to communicate complex
issues in plain language.
• High commitment to client satisfaction.
• Masters or PhD in Environmental Planning, Land Use Planning or equivalent.
• Asset qualifications include: experience with “traditional
knowledge”, land use and occupancy, GIS, communication and
consultation, community economic development, conflict resolution,
capacity building / training, and multimedia story-telling.
