About US:
Set Her Free
(SHF) is a non-profit organization working to restore the lives of young girls
that were victims of sexual exploitation. We currently run 2 homes in the
Kawempe and Nakawa Divisions of Kampala, Uganda. At these homes, we provide
food, shelter, formal education, vocational skills training, counselling, and
medical care to young women. SHF provides temporary accommodation and
resettlement assistance for girls who do not have safe places to go at night,
and provides services for the girls at the centre during the day. SHF provides an
open and non-judgmental community that supports girls in reaching their full
potential.

Job
Summary: The
Fundraising and Communications Officer’s primary role will be to steer Set Her
Free’s resource mobilization efforts by identifying potential donors and
partners, crafting proposals and letters of interest, and helping to develop
strategic organizational growth plans. The Fundraising and Communication
Officer’s secondary role will be to create a coherent and attractive
communications strategy and represent the organization in external and partner
meetings.

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Support
the Executive Director and the leadership team make strategic growth
decisions - Carry
out background research on proposal opportunities to determine SHF’s
competitiveness to receive funding - Steer
the proposal development processes, taking primary responsibility for
proposal design, writing, budgeting, and ensuring timely and efficient
submission of competitive proposals - Support
in developing a diverse mix of funding sources - Maintain
donor and proposal tracking spreadsheet, ensuring that it is up-to-date - Support
board members, donors, sponsors and other guests on field visits and
information needs - Write
and edit a variety of internal and external communications - Design
and oversee the implementation of a communications strategy that
articulates a coherent identity and raises SHF’s profile - Consistently
update SHF’s social media strategy and presence - Strengthen
communication touch-points with SHF stakeholders to keep them informed
about SHF projects and activities; develop and share impact stories - Work
closely with management to build local and international strategic
partnerships for SHF - Actively
support the implementation of a partnership strategy - Stay
informed of news and updates in philanthropy and resource mobilization
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience:
Skills and Experience:
- The
ideal candidate should be proficient and experienced working with women or
for women’s rights - Significant
experience raising funds from institutional funders and individual donors - Prior
exposure and experience writing funding proposals for institutional
funders and individual donors - Comfort
executing fundraising and development ideas with independence and
confidence - Excellent
writing and communication skills in English - Past
exposure and experience with NGO communications strategies and knowledge
of communications trends in international development and global health
Job Terms and
Conditions: Fellows
will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of
$550/month. Additionally, fellows will receive an award of $1500 upon
successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from the placement
site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included,
including $600 in professional development funds. Fellows will live in Set Her
Free guest housing near the Set Her Free offices.
