Organization: The Security Governance
Group (SGG) is a young, dynamic international research and consulting firm
headquartered in Waterloo, Canada that specializes in the security and
governance dimensions of statebuilding, peacebuilding and post-conflic

t reconstruction.

Position
Summary:

Reporting to the President and Vice-President of the SGG, the candidate will
play an integral role in the continued growth of the SGG, from overseeing
projects and raising funds to nurturing partnerships and engaging in overall strategic
planning.

Specific
Duties Include:

  • Develop
    and lead research and consulting projects from inception to completion.
  • Cultivate
    consulting, grant and other business/funding opportunities for the SGG.
  • Write
    competitive tenders and grant proposals.
  • Develop
    and nurture institutional partnerships for the SGG.
  • Assist
    in marketing the achievements and services of the SGG.
  • Conduct
    desk-based and field-based research in conflict-affected and fragile state
    environments.
  • Write
    blogs, papers and comprehensive research reports.
  • Represent
    the SGG at international meetings and conferences.
  • Organize
    and facilitate real and virtual events.
  • Oversee
    and mentor junior staff and interns.
  • Lead
    the development of innovative communications and dissemination tools.
  • Assist in
    strategic planning for the firm.

Qualifications:

  • A
    graduate degree in the social sciences (Political Science, History,
    Sociology etc.)
  • A
    minimum of 5 years of employment experience in one or more of the
    following fields: international development, security and defence, or
    governance.
  • Demonstrated
    excellence in research and writing.
  • A
    minimum of 1 year of project management and fund-raising experience.
  • At
    least 6 months of field experience in a fragile or conflict-affected
    state.
  • Strong
    interpersonal and organizational skills, with an attention to detail.
  • Self-starter
    with leadership experience.
  • Knowledge
    of the fields of peacebuilding, statebuilding, and security sector reform
    is a strength.
  • Knowledge
    of social media, web design and eConferencing tools is a strength.
  • Ability
    to speak French, Spanish or Arabic is a strength.
