The U.S. Embassy in Baghdad
has announced that it is now accepting applications for U.S.
Government-sponsored exchange programs focused on the education sector.
The programs will provide
Iraqi high school and university students and educators with the opportunity to
travel to the United States to exchange ideas and build linkages with their
American colleagues.
These programs work to
support the goals of the U.S.-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement and to build
ties between the United States and Iraq. Specifically, they are working
together to promote cultural and educational exchanges to forge strong,
long-lasting bonds of friendship and mutual respect.
The following programs
focused on students,
teachers, and professors are now accepting applications:
- Study of the U.S.
Institutes (SUSI): The SUSI program offers
university faculty, secondary school teachers, and students the
opportunity to participate in five- or six-week exchanges in the United
States. The programs are organized around a central theme and aim to
strengthen curricula, provide opportunities for a deeper understanding of
U.S. institutions and culture, and enhance leadership skills. To

is November 27, 2011. - Fulbright Visiting
Scholar Program: The Fulbright program will bring 35
junior Iraqi scholars to U.S. institutions from July 7 through September
15, 2012, for faculty development, mentoring, and cultural exchange
activities. Full-time Iraqi university faculty members with fluency
in English, an MA/MS degree, and at least five years of teaching
experience are eligible to apply. Scholars should have professional
or academic experience in the following fields of study: Science and
Technology, Engineering, Linguistics/English Teaching, Environmental

The deadline for applications is December 16, 2011.
There is no cost to apply
to these programs. The U.S. Department of State will fully fund participants’
travel, educational program costs, health insurance, housing, and a modest
living stipend.
