Background
SAFE (Sustainable Agriculture for
Food security and Economic development) was established in 2002 as a
multisectoral think tank which has a vision to change lives through inclusive
growth and sustainable development. Its purpose is to provide a range of
technical management s

ervices to various stakeholders that includes
development, private sector (including farmers organizations) and government, in
the areas of sustainable agriculture, inclusive market development, environment
& climate change all centered to Women and youth.

SAFE is looking for4 motivated internsin the field
of Gender in Agriculture, Climate smart Agriculture and inclusive Agribusinessfor
a period of 3 months starting from 6 March 2017.
1. Position:               Programme Intern,Climate smart Agriculture

Duty

Reports
to:                Senior Programme Officer
Matrix Manager:    Executive Director
Supervises:                N/A
Hours of work: 
       40 hrs/week
Contract type: 
Fixed term (3 months renewable)
Primary accountabilities:
This position is responsible for leading the
quality of technical areas of the SAFE core Programmes by advising,
facilitating and operationalising the activity delivery in a manner that
ensures the achievement of the objectives set out in the SAFE’s strategic Plan
and adhering to its principles and standards.
Key Accountabilities:
The post holder shall provide
support to the programme staff by:
1.       Work with the Senior Management
to provide technical support in the implementation and monitoring of
Agriculture related specific work packages components in a manner that is
responsible, professional, and financially sound, in accordance with
organization policies and procedures.
2.      
Lead the
strategic thinking and performance of the Climate smart agricultural
development, Innovative agricultural practices (such as organic production and
post-harvest handling systems), which include responding to requests for
technical information, advice and hand-on support.
3.       Builds and maintains healthy
partnership with strategic stakeholders including RAB, RSB, RALIS and line
Ministries, donors/partners (as well as alliance and coalitions that SAFE is a
member of).
4.       Responsible for the development
of Scaling Up Sustainable Agriculture Network “SUSAN”, and work closely with
SAFE senior management team to achieve this.
5.      
Assisting
with the provision of wide ranging technical support and advice on sustainable
agriculture and certification of agricultural related components and in support
for the work of SAFE.
6.      
Assist
the senior management with the contracting needs of other third parties/service
providers. Ensures the complete process is undertaken from drawing up Terms of
Reference to contract completion and shared logging.
7.       Mobilize resources through
drafting project proposals that complies to donor needs and maintaining
required programme quality, identifying opportunities for scale up and
communicating significant changes to SAFE audiences and by involvement in SAFE
Income Generating Assignments.
8.      
Contributes
to the implementation of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework of
SAFE, to effectively capture and communicate results and successes of
interventions.
9.      
Convening
national workshops to share experience/information on agriculture development
and Climate Change, with a focus on Climate Smart agriculture development.
10.   
Supports
colleagues in delivering the SAFE objectives, including assisting in events and
initiatives that fall outside the direct responsibilities of this post.
11.   
Performs
any other reasonable duties and tasks as requested by SAFE.
Personal
qualifications, Skills and Competences
  • Knowledge of principles and practices related
    to programme development, Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture,
  • Must have strong and polished interpersonal,
    written and oral communication skills.
·        
Bachelor
of Science in Agriculture (with options in Soil and environmental management or
Crop Production), Project management, or any related fields.
·        
Having
strong analytic and strategic thinking within the development sphere;
·        
Good report
writing skills.
·        
Advanced
computer skills, particularly MS Office (MS Word, Excel and Power Point)
·        
Well-organized,
resourceful with good planning and problem-solving abilities
·        
A team
player, flexible, quick thinking and able to work well under pressure;

the Senior Programme Officer to provide technical support in the implementation
and monitoring of work packages in a manner that is responsible, professional,
financially sound, participatory, and sensitive to Rwanda’s Agriculture sector
needs, in accordance with organization policies and procedures.
13.    Lead the strategic thinking and
the performance of Gender in Agriculture, its promotion, and other SAFE initiatives
related to gender issues.
14.    Builds and maintains healthy
partnership with strategic stakeholders including RAB, GMO and line Ministries,
donors/partners (as well as alliance and coalitions that SAFE is a member of).
15.    Responsible for the scale up and
the performance of Partnership for Enhanced Accountability for Women
Empowerment in Agriculture and Livestock “PA WEAL” platform with its core work
(product development, marketing and its implementation framework)  and work closely with SAFE team to implement
its activities.
16.    Assisting with the provision of
wide ranging technical support and advice on gender related issues in smart
livestock and agriculture value chains (including marketing).
17.   
Assist the
senior management with the contracting needs of other third parties/service
providers. Ensures the complete process is undertaken from drawing up Terms of
Reference to contract completion and shared logging.
18.    Mobilize resources through
drafting project proposals that complies to donor needs and maintaining
required programme quality, identifying opportunities for scale up and
communicating significant changes to SAFE audiences and by involvement in SAFE
Income Generating Assignments.
19.   
Contributes
to the implementation of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework of
SAFE, to effectively capture and communicate results and successes of
interventions.
20.   
Convening
national workshops to share experience/information on gender advocacy, with a
focus on its inclusion in agriculture and livestock programmes.

Agribusiness related specific work packages components in a manner that is
responsible, professional, and financially sound, in accordance with

strategic thinking and performance of the Inclusive agricultural market
development, value chains development, Innovative Cooperative Development
Support, which include responding to requests for technical information, advice
and hand-on support.
25.    Builds and maintains healthy
partnership with strategic stakeholders including RCA, RICEM, NCCR and line
Ministries, donors/partners (as well as alliance and coalitions that SAFE is a
member of).
26.    Responsible for the scale up and
the performance of Cooperative Advisory Academy with its core work (SEAT cycle
framework), and work closely with SAFE Business Units such as CAA .
27.   
Assisting
with the provision of wide ranging technical support and advice on
inclusive  agricultural markets and
agrifood business management and in support for the work of SAFE.
28.   
Assist
the senior management with the contracting needs of other third parties/service
providers. Ensures the complete process is undertaken from drawing up Terms of
Reference to contract completion and shared logging.
29.    Mobilise resources through
drafting project proposals that complies to donor needs and maintaining required
programme quality, identifying opportunities for scale up and communicating
significant changes to SAFE audiences and by involvement in SAFE Income
Generating Assignments.
