The Sabre Trust Ghanaian Diaspora Outreach and Events Coordinator Job Vacancy

We have an exciting position for an enthusiastic self-starter, looking to develop their fundraising and event organising experience within an international development context, ideal for a graduate or student. This position reports to the Fundraiser (Line Manager) and Managing Director who will support, guide and advise.


Main Appointment site:
The position is home based but the post holder will be encouraged to report to their line manager every other week and be available to meet monthly in either London or Reigate.

Duration
There are no minimum hours/week requested. The volunteer can use their time as they see fit in order to successfully complete their responsibilities.

Position to start as soon as possible. Initially this position is until the end of 2012 but we are hopeful that the volunteer builds a relationship with Sabre and chooses to continue the work with us.

Main Duties and Responsibilities of Ghanaian Diaspora Outreach and Events Coordinator
• To assist the fundraising manager to organise Sabre’s annual event (taking place in May) focussing on venue and performers.
• To research and find Ghanaian artists (singers, rappers, poets, authors, musicians) for a Lifelines event in September. This is a night to raise the profile of the charity and celebrate Ghanaian culture.
• To make links with Ghanaian communities in London and create opportunities to introduce Sabre’s work.
• To make presentations about Sabre to Ghanaian communities and groups
• Identify suitable UK based Ghanaians who would be prepared to make presentations to students at our partner schools before they travel in expedition to Ghana
• To assist/take part in networking evenings and events if required.

The role is a perfect opportunity for an outgoing and innovative thinker to make use of their own contacts and knowledge of the Ghanaian community and culture to play a key role in the Sabre Trust’s fundraising and communications strategy. Equally important though is a passion for the work done by our charity and an understanding of the importance of improving education for school children in Ghana giving them a brighter future.

Skills & Characteristics Required
• Well connected within the Ghanaian diaspora – preferably of Ghanaian descent
• Good written and spoken communication skills in English
• As a first point of contact for the Sabre Trust, the ability to speak eloquently and persuasively about specific areas of work undertaken is vital
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, donors and external personnel at all levels
• Enthusiasm and dedication and willingness to get involved
• Ability to work on your own initiative and with minimal supervision
• An interest in education and Ghana
