School District No. 38 (Richmond) an
exciting, diverse, multi-cultural,
collaborative educational community with over 20,000 students and 50 sites,
invites applications for the position of Energy Specialist. This is a temporary
one year assignment with the possibility for renewal.
As part of a team dedicated to energy conservation and sustainability, the
successful applicant will be responsible for identifying innovative
opportunities for the District and its individual facilities to maximize energy
efficiency and promote environmental stewardship.
The Energy Specialist will:
• Play an integral role in assisting the district in understanding when, where
and how much energy is being used.
• Have an opportunity to contribute to developing best practices in energy
management and driving positive change in energy conservation.
• Ensure District staff are aware of new emerging technologies and practice in
incentive and information programs for Fortis BC Gas within the District.
• Explore and develop business cases around natural gas related projects,
collect and report data on the District’s greenhouse gas emissions.
• Manage web content on energy and sustainability initiatives
• Assisting the Manager of Energy and Sustainability to complete and implement
the Strategic Energy Management plan and the 5-year Sustainability Plan
The ideal candidate for this role will have experience in mechanical and
electrical building systems and building automation systems (BAS) combined with
strong data analysis and reporting skills. In addition, we are seeking an
individual with:
• Experience in data analysis and data management (preferably within the
context of facility or energy management.)
• The ability to create projections, strategies and action plans based on
analysis of data results.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• A passion for energy conservation and sustainability, and a willingness to
engage and educate others on sustainable energy management principals to reach
organizational goals of environmental stewardship.
To be qualified for the position applicants must possess one of the following:
• BCIT Sustainability Energy Management Associate Certificate (SEMAC) or
• UBC Master’s in Clean Energy: Completion in the Energy Efficiency Module.
• Douglas College Building Energy and Resource Management program certificate.
• Proof of passing the Certified Energy Manager (CEM) exam under the Canadian
Institute for Energy Training
• Master’s degree in Sustainability and planning

The annual salary is : $60,000 which includes benefits.
