The Clinical Tropical Medicine Laboratory investigates how parasites such as the malaria parasite, hookworm, threadworm and scabies cause disease and how they become resistant to drugs used to treat them.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work as part of a multidisciplinary team undertaking a cluster-randomised intervention trial assessing the impact of a community-based hygiene and sanitation programme on intestinal parasites in Timor-Leste.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake molecular diagnosis of parasite infections on human faecal samples using RT-PCR and to contribute to the production of publications reporting the results. The position will be primarily located at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research in Brisbane however you may be required to travel to Timor-Leste.

The applicant will ideally hold a Bachelor of Science with honours or equivalent, specialising in microbiology, molecular biology and/or parasitology; and will have experience in RT-PCR. Previous experience working in a medical or veterinary pathology laboratory would be an advantage.

Salary:
Salary range is $51,136 – $69,398 per annum. This is a full-time appointment until 31 December 2013 with the possibility for extension subject to funding.
