Salary(s): PB1-3 $42,952.00 – $67,974.00 per year

A satisfactory security check, Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check are conditions of employment.

Qualifications:
Post Secondary education in the Social Sciences field or an equivalent combination of education, training and related experience is required. Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, history and justice related issues is considered an asset, as is the ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner. An understanding of the multi-cultural elements of the community would be considered an asset as would the ability to speak the German language. Experience with community networking is desired. Assessment skills and effective intervention planning in a social services setting are required. Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, as are the abilities to work independently and in a team environment. Experience with program facilitation/presentation is an asset. Proficiency using various computer software including MS office or equivalent applications is required. The ability to travel, a valid driver’s license, and access to a personal vehicle are required, as is the ability to work flexible hours.

Duties:
The probation officer, as part of the Central Regional team, provides: an alternative to court action, alternatives to incarceration, assists in reintegrating offenders into the community and develops opportunities for community involvement in community corrections and crime prevention. The probation officer manages offenders with the appropriate degree of control, supervision and support and by providing appropriate programs, services and encouragement to assist offenders to deal with those issues which brought them into conflict with the law. The probation officer participates as a team member in the planning, implementation and evaluation of all the services delivered by the unit and contributes to the program initiatives by strategy development, support of justice committees and Honorary Probation Officer functional assignments.
