Computer Operator
POSTMEDIA NETWORK INC.
Postmedia Business Technology (BT), in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada is looking
for a dedicated, customer service oriented, BT professional to join our
operations team in support of the Company’s operations.
COMPUTER OPERATOR
Reporting to the Service Desk/Network Operations Center Supervisor and as
part of our Operations team, the incumbent will be responsible to:
•Operate and monitor Postmedia computer systems and related equipment
according to operating instructions, ensuring superior system operation, availability,
performance, security and reliability;
•Perform routine system backups, batch processing (manual and automated),
system maintenance and production/print
ing of reports;
•React to errors, alerts and data center alarms as required;
•Respond to support calls and maintain system and data center security;
•Maintain production and performance documentation of systems/ business events
to ensure those events are completed within the appropriate timeframes;
•Provide after hours and ad hoc Service Desk support which involves triaging
and appropriately responding to, tracking, resolving and communicating about
issues and incidents; and
•This position is part of a team that works extended hours shifts (7.5 to up to
12) on a rotating basis to ensure 24/7 coverage.
Qualifications:
•Computer Technology diploma or equivalent experience;
•Basic knowledge in computer technology areas (e.g. Alpha/VMS, UNIX, AIX and
Windows environments);
•Good work ethic and organizational skills, with exceptional attention to
detail and accuracy;
•A proven team player with excellent communications, interpersonal and customer
service skills;
•Ability to multi-task and work under pressure with strict deadlines;
•Must be willing to work a rotating schedule of 7.5 to 12 hour shifts to ensure
7/24 coverage;
•Previous experience in computer operations would be an asset.
•Previous experience with Dollar Universe scheduling tool is an asset.
