Location: Ottawa, Ontario
The Polaris Institute is seeking qualified applicants for the position of
Project Assistant. The successful applicant will report to the Public
Education and Outreach Coordinator, and work as a member of the Polaris
Institute Team.
The successful applicant will:
• Work in collaboration with and under the direction of Polaris
Institute Public Education and Outreach Coordinator;
• Develop a framework to assess of the potential for Green Economy
initiatives in Orleans;
• Complete a profile of demographics and civil society groups
present in Orleans;
• Complete various short research, case studies or other writing
tasks on a number of topics with a focus on community based initiatives,
including:
– Mass public transit
– Renewable energy
– Green Building Retrofits
The successful applicant should:
• Be a team player;
• Be able to work independently and take initiative;
• Eligible applicants are: between the ages of 15 and 30 years of
age; registered as a full-time student in the previous academic year and
intend on returning to school on a full-time basis in the next academic
year; and are legally entitled to work in Canada
• Possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English
as well as a functioning knowledge of French (Fluent French an asset);
• Strong interest in Renewable energy, public transportation and
green economy work;
• Possess strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office ;
• Knowledge of municipal and provincial landscapes (Ottawa and
Ontario) and green economy related policy is an asset;
• Experience in grassroots activism is an asset;
Starting date: June 27th, 2011
Salary: $2850 (31 hours a week; 9 weeks; $10,25/h)
