General
Responsibilities:
The
biomedical engineering specialist will work closely with the hospital based
biomed technicians to provide technical support to all aspects related to
biomedical equipment including installation, adjustment, maintenance,
repairing, replacement and proper use at the 3 PIH supported districts. This
role will include a combination of direct work on hospital and health center
equipment as well as training and mentorship related to biomedical equipment
use and maintenance. In addition, the BMIS will work closely with hospital
bas

ed biomed technicians to identify gaps in medical equipment, and develop
long term maintenance plans to ensure safety, efficiency and effectiveness of
biomedical equipment. The BMIS will be a liaison between health facilities and
PIH to ensure equipment procured or donated respect minimum national standards.

Specific
Tasks:
  • Provide
    technical support to hospital and health centers in regard with technical
    specifications, installation, maintenance, adjustment, repairing,
    replacement and proper use of medical equipment.
  • Work
    with hospital and health center teams to evaluate safety, efficiency, and
    effectiveness of existing biomedical equipment.
  • Train
    clinicians and other hospital personnel on the proper use of medical
    equipment.
  • Work
    with the hospital based biomed technicians to develop long term
    maintenance plan that will allow sustainability and continuous use of
    medical equipment.
  • Collect
    data related to medical equipment including cost that will allow both PIH
    and District hospital and health centers for joint planning.
  • Guide
    PIH/IMB in the types of equipment to buy or receive as donations and
    assist with annual planning and budgeting for medical equipment
  • Work
    with PIH/IMB infrastructure team to scope equipment needs for new
    structures or renovated structures
Education
and skills required:
  • A1
    or A0 diploma in biomedical engineering;
  • At
    least 2 year experience working in hospital settings or biomedical
    companies;
  • Strong
    interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact
    with patients and health providers;
  • Strong
    organizational skills and excellent attention to details; flexibility,
    independence and creativity;
  • Fluency
    in English and Kinyarwanda, proficiency in French is an added value;
  • Familiarity
    with Excel
