Eligibility:
The applicant is expected to have a Masters degree in Physics with a good background in solid-state physics. Previous experience in ab-initio electronic structure calculation will be considered as an extra merit

Scholarship Description: The Division of Materials theory is known to have a world-class research environment in the ab-initio computational research on the materials properties. Besides the usage of existing state-of-the-art computational codes, a perpetual development of new methods and computational techniques is done in this department. The Ph. D. student will work on the development and applications of first principles theory in graphene. The focus will be on chemical functionalization, study of defects, transport, magnetic, vibrational and spectroscopic properties of graphene. This research will be done in collaboration with the theoreticians and experimentalists belonging to the frontier areas of graphene. The candidate is expected to use extensively the existing first principles density functional codes as well as to take part in the development and implementation of methods to study various interactions in graphene.
