training/mentoring of related staff at Butaro Hospital, and supports
cross-sites clinical management of pediatric cancer patients at Rwinkwavu and
Kirehe. Additionally, plays key role in implementation of Butaro Cancer Center
of Excellence, and programmatic areas including documentation and data quality,
policies and curriculum development.

from Boston-based cancer expert team, and IMB NCD Program Director,

- Provide direct clinical care for hospitalized
Butaro pediatric oncology patients. This includes rounding daily on
hospitalized cancer patients and leading management of patients - Oversee care of outpatient pediatric oncology
patients seen at Butaro NCD Clinic. - Provide back up consultant support for adult
cancer patients in the Butaro cancer ward and NCD clinic, when Adult
Oncology Program officer (internist) is not available - Provide consultant input to other general
practitioners on the management of patients with cancer or who are
suspected to have cancer in other Butaro hospital wards/departments - Provide consultative support for management of
inpatient and outpatient pediatric cancer patients at Rwinkwavu - Serve as lead accepting physician for cancer
patients being referred to Rwinkwavu or Butaro from non-PIH supported
facilities (secondary contact for this role being Adult Program Officer) - Provide CME training and mentoring to
cancer-related personnel at Butaro
Administrative/Programmatic
Assist with

- Contribute to the supervision of oncology
ward, working with hospital Medical Director, MOH NCD/cancer doctor
coordinator, Nurse educators, and IMB NCD Director to ensure proper and
harmonized (across sites) functioning of pediatric cancer care and quality
assurance initiatives - Oversee to transfer decision making for
pediatric cancer patients to referral facilities in Rwanda and for
radiotherapy to Uganda. - Maintain communication between IMB NCD/ONC
program and Butaro leadership team regarding Cancer Programmatic
developments and leading routine meetings to achieve this. - Serve other cross-sites programmatic roles as
needs arise and as requested by IMB NCD Director

- Support Butaro oncology nurse coordinator;
e.g. review oncology online patient tracker at least weekly to ensure that
all pediatric oncology cases, across sites are entered and information is

Butaro patients with suspected cancer - Mentor Butaro NCD/oncology doctor coordinator
at Butaro; provide bedside teaching, accompany follow up of programmatic
issues

Qualifications:
Education:
MD with residency training in Pediatrics or Med/Peds is required. Additional
advanced degree in public health, policy, or administration is highly desired,
but not required
