Ombudsman – Parliament of Malawi
The Malawi National Assembly is inviting applications from suitably qualified
Malawians for the position of Ombudsman established under Section 120 of the
Constitution
Ombudsman, Grade P2C
Subject to the constitution the Ombudsman shall inquire into, investigate and
take action as prescribed by law on any matter laid before him/her concerning
any alleged instance or matter of abuse of power or unfair treatment of any
person by an official in the employ of any organ of govt, or manifest injustice
or conduct by such official which would properly be regarded as oppressive or
unfair in an open and democratic society
The person appointed to eh office of Ombudsman shall have sufficient knowledge
of the law, preferably a holder of Bachelor of Laws Degree or above with a
minimum of 10 yrs of relevant experience, Be publicly regarded as a person who
can make impartial judgements, Have sufficient knowledge of h workings of Govt,
not have had any criminal convictions and not have been bankrupt, Be otherwise
competent and capable of performing the duties of his/her office, Not be
President, Vice President, a Minister or Deputy minister, a Member of
Parliament or a serving public officer and Not hold any other public office
unless otherwise provided for in the constitution
The ombudsman shall perform his/her functions independent of any person or
authority but shall otherwise be accountable to Parliament
Interested persons who meet the above specifications should submit a written
application letter with a copy of current CV, naming 3 traceable refs in a
sealed envelope marked “Ombudsman” not later than 21st August to The Clerk of
Parliament, Parliament of Malawi, Parliament Building, Private Bag B362,
Lilongwe 3 or email ombudsman@parliament.gov.mw
