Position Overview

Ottawa Riverkeeper (ORK) is a growing nonprofit organization based in
Ottawa, Ontario that works to protect swimmable, drinkable, fishable
water throughout Ontario and Quebec. We are seeking to hire a
knowledgeable, enthusiastic and experienced person for the role of
Operations Manager – a new position reporting to the Executive
Director. The Operations Ma

nager will provide internal management and
support for ORK daily operations. Their primary responsibilities will
be to manage and lead the legal compliance, financial management,
funder reporting, administrative systems and staff supervision at ORK
– while identifying and implementing opportunities for greater system
efficiencies and effectiveness. They will also support the Executive
Director in designing and implementing strategic fundraising efforts.
Importantly, the Operations Manager must be comfortable leading in
both a proactive and reactive manner – managing the evolving people,
opportunities and issues related to a
 not-for-profit operating in the public eye.

Key Activities

The Operations Manager will be responsible for understanding, managing
and identifying the necessary resources for the following areas:
• Human Resource Management: Develop a performance management system
to support and enable staff performance (a team of 6 professionals and
many volunteers). Develop and implement human resource processes
across the organization.
• Project Management: Develop a series of operational plans that are
tied to strategic priorities. Coordinate, implement and evaluate
projects, manage budgets and report to funders and the board of
directors on project impact.
• Records and Database Management: Maintain a filing system that is
resilient and ensure retention of key organization documents. Become
the organizational lead and expert on our Salesforce Database as a
means for tracking donations, volunteers, events and engagement
organizing.
• Office Management: Manage all aspects of creating a healthy and
effective office space.
• Fund Development: Identify a fundraising strategy and approach and
monitor benchmarks quarterly.
• Financial Management: Develop and implement a robust and efficient
business and financial accounting process. Support annual audits,
generate financial reports, track and manage grants and charitable
gifts.

Statement of Qualifications

In addition to relevant post-secondary education, preferably an
advanced degree, and considerable experience working with community
organizations or small business, the position requires:
• enthusiasm for clean water and environmental justice
• strong leadership skills, both as a team player and as a team leader
• management experience (staff supervision and financial management)
• experience creating and maintaining tracking and reporting systems
for charitable organizations or small business; knowledge of basic
bookkeeping principles
• minimum of 3 years fundraising experience, with institutional and
individual donors, including demonstrated ability to access funds from
new sources (please provide specific examples in application cover
letter)
• demonstrated experience preparing reports (narrative and financial)
• demonstrated experience using customer relationship management
systems (i.e. Salesforce)
• familiarity with Google Apps and/or a range of cloud computing and
office software
