Ottawa Riverkeeper is a growing nonprofit organization based in
Ottawa, Ontario. We are seeking a creative and motivated
communications intern to help our team protect swimmable, drinkable,
fishable water. We are bu

sy with a very exciting and innovative
project called AquaHacking that will bring together a diverse audience
with a common goal to put technology to the service of our river. Our
ideal candidate is a team player, creative, digitally savvy, a good
writer and motivated to learn new technologies and skills.

Specific responsibilities include:
• Create fresh content for social media using photographs,
infographics and video clips
• Tell compelling stories using our ESRI Story Mapping tools
• Generate a buzz about AquaHacking that intrigues people and
encourages a diverse audience to get involved
• Update a dashboard of metrics (e.g. media coverage, web site visits,
social media engagement)
• Create posters and invitations to support Riverkeeper events
• Utilize our huge databank of existing photographs and video clips to
create exciting content to inspire people to get involved and help us
protect freshwater
• Use MailChimp to create effective e-communications with our followers
• Update our WordPress website

Requirements
• Ability to work in two official languages a huge asset
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator) an asset
• Willing to become proficient in WordPress and MailChimp
• Experience using social media
• Creativity, imagination and the ability to take initiative and bring
fresh ideas to the Riverkeeper team

Contract Information

4-month contract with the possibility of renewal

Candidate must be eligible for YMCA Digital Skills Youth Internship Program:

1. up to 30 years of age (inclusive) at the time of placement;
2. a post-secondary graduate and can provide proof of college or university;
3. unemployed or underemployed at the time of placement;
4. can commit to a full time internship
5. a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
6. legally entitled to work according to the relevant
provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
7. NOT in receipt of employment insurance (EI) benefits
