The New Farm is looking for one intern for the 2011 growing season to complete our team of six interns. We are a diversified, certified organic family farm on the edge of the Niagara escarpment near the village of Creemore, and we grow over 100 varieties of heirloom and speciality vegetables. We sell to restaurants in Toronto and Collingwood, to speciality retail stores and in the Creemore Farmers’ Market, and we are active in the local food movement in southern Ontario. We have also developed an innovative partnership with The Stop Community Food Centre to provide premium quality organic vegetables to low income communities in Toronto.
Our interns learn about all aspects of our operation, and have the opportunity to work with food activists, world-renowned chefs and other progressive growers. We are a member of the CRAFT Ontario network, and participate in monthly CRAFT education days at member farms. Our interns receive a $50.00 weekly stipend, all the organic food they can eat and housing in a renovated 120-year-old schoolhouse one kilometer from the farm. This position is to fill a vacancy left when one of our interns was refused a visa to come to work in Canada — we therefore need to fill this position as soon as possible. Applicants should be prepared to come to the farm for an interview before the end of May, should be ready to start work some time in June and MUST be able to work until the end of October. Sorry, we cannot accept applications from those who have school or other commitments in September.
