We are seeking a
capable and ambitious personal assistant to support the needs of the six
general partners that lead One Acre Fund, with additional support for our four
US-based leadership council members. This is a career-track role with
significant room for growth. The role will encompass:


– Managing
assistants: Managing the day-to-day activities of a half-dozen assistants
located throughout East Africa. Field requests by email from General Partners,
and then delegating tasks onwards to those assistants.

– Developing
assistants: Providing tools and checklists to those assistants, and providing
career development and mentorship.

– Travel logistics:
Flight and taxi arrangements. Ensuring also that phone modems, SIM cards,
vehicles, hotels are booked and waiting upon arrival.

– Email: Monitoring
email while leaders are on holiday, and potentially handling some
communication.

– Calendar: Calendar
management.

– Meeting support:
Taking notes for important meetings.

– Personal tasks:
Arranging medical appointments, holidays, projects, filing expense reports –
anything that might take the time of our leadership group, and thereby free
them to be more productive and balanced. Sensitive personal tasks such as
medical appointments require strict professionalism and confidentiality.

– Proactive support:
Positively surprising our leaders with anything that saves them time or
improves their balance.

– Research support:
Conducting ad hoc research on various topics.

– Occasional travel:
Possibly providing in-person support for particularly-important trips in
Europe, US, and Africa.

Qualifications

This is a
competitive posting for a career–track role, with a two-year minimum. Only 3%
of applicants make it to a phone screen. We are seeking candidates who fit
these criteria:

  • Strong
    leadership experiences. We are seeking someone with entrepreneurial
    abilities who has demonstrated leadership in unstructured situations.
    Examples include successful peace corps service, campus leadership,
    organizing a conference, or working at a start-up.
  • A
    passion for being an executive assistant. We are seeking someone who wants
    to grow to manage an increasingly-large staff of support personnel (who
    may eventually number in the dozens).
  • A
    positive and friendly team player, with zero drama.
  • Strong
    communicator both verbally and written.
  • High-performing
    undergraduate background (please include GPA and test scores on your
    resume).
  • Humility
    and personal stability. We have a fantastic and likeable team. We are
    looking for passionate professionals that combine strong leadership skills
    with good humor, patience, and a humble approach to service.
  • A
    willingness to commit to living in rural East Africa for at least two
    years – this is a long–term, career–track role. The ideal candidate will
    have at least one year demonstrated experience working in the developing
    world, although this is not a strict requirement.
  • Language:
    English required.
  • Ability
    to cook/laugh – desirable.

Location: Rural Kenya, Rwanda, or
Burundi (Dual English-French highly desired)

Compensation: Starts modest. However, this
is a career–track role with fast raises for performance, paying a meaningful
salary for long–term placement in developing nations
