Summer Student Position — Seven Weeks — June to August 2011
Northwatch is seeking one individual to fill the position of Active Transportation Educator in a summer placement funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
The successful applicant will work for Northwatch in a seven week position doing outreach and education in the community to promote safe walking and biking, with a particular focus on children, youth and seniors. Activities will include coordinating neighbourhood walk-abouts, organizing and staffing information tables and workshops at community events, and outreach through youth programs, particularly through day camps and drop-ins.
The successful applicant must be returning to school full time in September 2011.
Qualifications include:
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Experience working with groups, particularly with children and youth
• Ability to work independently and follow a work-plan
• Knowledge of Active Transportation (walking and biking) and associated benefits
• Commitment to modelling Active Transportation by using a bicycle and public transit
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
• Fluency in both official languages
• Volunteer experience
