Reporting
to Senior Manager, Facility Operations the Aquarium Curator is responsible for
managing and overseeing all aspects of the Club Regent Casino Aquarium, with
the goal of ensur

Duties:

·
Monitor, assess, and adjust water quality.

·
Monitor and maintain aquarium life support systems.

·
Develop an aquarium collection plan, as well as an animal nutrition plan.

·
Monitor animal health.

·
Develop and implement an animal quarantine program.

·
Ensure adequate medical, pathological, and veterinary care is provided when
needed.

·
Maintain aquarium cleanliness.

·
Conduct necropsies, as required.

·
Coordinate and participate in dive feeds and aquarium cleaning.

·
Ensure proper aquarium records are kept for nutrition, medical histories,
behaviour, mortalities, and water quality.

·
Procure aquarium supplies and foodstuffs.

·
Select, procure, and introduce replacement inhabitants to aquarium when
necessary.

·
Coordinate collection and transport of new specimens.

·
Respond to aquarium emergency situations.

·
Maintain the aquarium’s Canada’s Accredited Zoos and Aquariums (CAZA)
accreditation.

·
Develop and maintain aquarium related procedures and guidelines.

·
Chair the internal Animal Care Committee and participate in approved external
conservation and education programs.

·
Participate in the annual budgeting process.

·
Prepare cost analyses and manage aquarium expenditures.

·
Champion Corporate Social Responsibility through integration, assessment, opportunities,
training etc.

·
Recruit, manage, coach and evaluate the performance of employees.

·
Encourage a climate that supports diversity.

·
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Primary
Qualifications:

·
A degree in Science, with a preference for Marine or Aquatic Biology, Zoology,
or a related field.

·
A minimum of five (5) years’ work experience in the operation and curatorial
care of a similar or larger-sized salt water aquarium.

·
Diving qualification to at least PADI Divemaster, rescue diver, and/or
instructor.

·
Demonstrated management experience with the ability to analyze and solve
problems independently using good judgment, strong leadership and
organizational skills, adoption of best practices, strong initiative and
ability as a self-starter.

·
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).

·
Ongoing professional development is required to keep current with public
aquarium issues, ideas, and solutions.

·

cooperation, communication, self-development and initiative, valuing diversity,
integrity and building trust, achieving quality results, technical/professional
knowledge. These competencies are deemed important for the success of the
position and organization.

Secondary
Qualifications:

·
Canadian certificate in First Aid, including oxygen administration.

·
Bilingual (French/English) language skills.
