As a key member of
Long Tail Ventures’ leadership team, the role’s primary responsibility will be
to ensure that solutions are researched, architected, and implemented within a
scalable multi-tier environment. The position will also work closely with
management and development teams to ensure that systems align with overall
strategy/vision. Work for this position will be split equally between
architecture/research and development/supervision. Overall, Long Tail Ventures
is looking for someone who can realize business goals by leading the design,
development, and implementation of elegant end-to-end solutions.
This position is for
applicants who currently reside in, or who would be willing to move to
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. This is not a remote position as working in our
office with the team is a requirement.
Core
responsibilities:
•Develop and deploy
systems within defined long-term principles and vision
•Participate as a key stakeholder in planning (strategic and tactical), and
technology roadmaps
•Evaluate technologies and tools for suitability to business goals and delivery
capabilities
•Provide a consistent architectural vision for all systems
•Design and deploy systems that can scale to support exponential growth with no
loss of system responsiveness or capacity
•Design and deliver processes to measure end-to-end system performance, and be
able to act on performance issues
•Communicate architectural goals and overall technology roadmap to customers
and management, investor, and development teams
•Define and work towards timetables for researching, developing, and deploying
systems and services
•Define development and release processes and standards (including unit,
functional, and client acceptance testing)
•Work effectively as a development team supervisor, and as a liaison to
management
•Detect, report, and resolve any issues or failures
•Establish a good working relationship with management to ensure that issues
are escalated in a timely and appropriate manner
Qualifications:
•Proven ability to
translate business requirements to strategic technical vision
•CS degree with 3+ years of experience in a lead role that involved architecting
and deploying top-tier, scalable, highly-available systems
•Has experience architecting hardware and software solutions
•Demonstrated ability to lead small, efficient technical teams
•Strong communication, leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
•Is driven by efficiency at all levels: from high-level architectures to
automated promotion procedures
•Applies innovation at all times
•Able to quickly learn and master new technologies and frameworks
•Thrives in an agile, fast-paced environment
•Is able to work on-site as a key member of a local team
Experience with:
•AWS Cloud: EC2, S3,
RDS, Route53, ElastiCache
•LAMP
•MySQL
•Experience with distributed database architectures (NoSQL solutions such as:
MongoDB, CouchDB, Cassandra, etc.)
•Agile
•Scrum
•SVN
•jQuery
•Memcached
•Architectural frameworks (TOGAF, Zachman, etc.)
