The Judicial
Commission of New South Wales is an independent statutory corporation
established under the Judicial
Officers Act
1986. Two of the functions of the Commission are to
assist courts to achieve consistency in imposing sentences and to organise a
scheme of continuing education and training for judicial officers. Lawyers with
experience in the practice of criminal law and knowledge of criminal law and
sentencing are important in the perfor

mance of these functions.

Job
Description:

Prepare material to
a standard suitable for publication on the Judicial Information Research System
(JIRS); provide judicial officers with timely and accurate research and support
services; conduct high quality research on sentencing issues for judicial officers;
assist in the maintenance of an environmental sentencing database; and author
sentencing publications.

Selection
Criteria Essential:

Tertiary
qualifications in law and experience in the practice of criminal law; extensive
knowledge of criminal law including sentencing law, evidence law and criminal
procedure; demonstrated ability to produce legal text to a standard suitable
for publication; high level oral and written communication skills; experience
with word processing and legal research databases; ability to work autonomously
and as part of a team and to show initiative; good supervisory skills.
