PROGRAM
ASSISTANT
POSITIONS:1 (3-4 days per week, up to
30 hours)

June 1, 2015 (contract is renewable for up to two years, and has the potential
to become full-time).
The program
assistant will assist with JHR’s Indigenous Reporters Program, and directly
oversee an internship and scholarship program for emerging Indigenous
reporters, as well as coordinate a province-wide workshop series (to be hosted
by a separate workshop facilitator). Additionally, the program assistant will
work closely with senior program managers to implement JHR’s international
media development programs.
Indigenous
Reporters Program Responsibilities:
Scholarship
and Internship management for Indigenous reporters:
- Market
scholarship and internship opportunities to relevant audiences. - Coordinate
and overseeing the selection process for scholarship and internship
applicants. - Work
closely with media partners, and college or university partners, to oversee
scholars and interns participating in the program. - Manage
travel logistics. - Complete
thorough evaluations with program participants before, during and after
program participation. - File
monthly reports and tracking deliverables. - Work
closely with JHR head office to formulate donor reports and updates. - Oversee
program budgets and complete required monthly financial reports.
Workshop
management
- Manage
JHR’s online[[http:Dibaajimo.com|Dibaajimo.com]]
training portal. - Coordinate
an Ontario-wide workshop series, focused on training non-Indigenous
reporters in how to effectively cover the Indigenous community. - Coordinate
workshop curriculum development process with committee of reviewers. - Develop
relationships with media outlets around the province. - Complete
participant evaluations with partner media outlets. - Complete
extensive monitoring and evaluation following each workshop, tracking
stories delivered as a result of training.
Other
Responsibilities:
- Support
JHR international programs staff on additional program development and
management responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications:
- Relevant
post-secondary diploma/degree. - A
thorough understanding of human rights and Canadian Indigenous affairs. - Experience
in an NGO, not-for-profit environment (2-3 years). - Experience
managing project budgets and finances. - Experience
managing and maintaining professional relationships. - Knowledge
of French desired but not required.
