Project Architect
on behalf of  VAVAKI, a dynamic firm of
Architects with a focus on African emerging economies which offer Urban Design,
Architecture and Master planning as their core business services.

Project Architect to join its close-knit team

. The job will suit an experienced
Project Architect that can evidence a strong portfolio of built work and on
site job supervision within a range of sectors including Grade A Offices, Retail
and Residential. The right candidate will possess the organisational as well as
creative and trouble shooting skills needed to succeed within a thriving
international firm. Excellent communication skills and a proven track record
within an East Africa based firm would also be a bonus.

Responsibilities 
  • Part
    of the Architects team involved in the contract administration and
    supervision of project during construction phase.
  • Making
    periodical on-site inspections to check on quality, adherence to health
    and safety, clean environment and progress of work by the contractor.
  • Reviewing
    all contract instructions issued by all consultants and ensure that action
    is taken where clients’ participation is required by the project teams.
  • Checking
    all claims issued by contractors to ensure their conformity with the bills
    of quantities, approved drawings and work executed by the contractor.
  • Carrying
    out periodical evaluation of work programmes vis-à-vis the progress by the
    contractors and advising the client accordingly.
  • Ensuring
    that the Contractor is carrying out the works according to the contractual
    obligations, Architect’s design drawings and instructions given to them by
    the consultants.
  • To
    understand the design project
  • To
    advise in the preparation of design amendments in the case where onsite
    trouble shooting is required to resolve construction conflicts.
  • To
    assist where required in the co-ordination of the internal site design
    team 
  • To
    take responsibility, where required by the project leader, for specific
    areas of the project supervision
  • To
    liaise, where appropriate, with members of the external design team and
    other associated organisations or companies
  • To
    have thorough knowledge of and compliance with Vavaki procedures and
    standards
The
ideal candidate must demonstrate:
  • Excellent
    CAD Skills
  • 10+
    years of experience working on high end offices, Retail and large
    developments
  • Extensive
    Construction knowledge
  • Building
    Regulations and Code for Uganda and Rwanda
  • Extensive
    Site and Supervision experience
  • A
    strong eye for Design
  • A
    strong Grasp of Sustainable and Energy efficient design and building
    techniques including LEED certification standards
  • AutoCAD
    skills (a Must)
  • Client
    liaison skills
  • East
    Africa project experience
  • Excellent
    knowledge of materials, Curtain Walling, Stone Cladding.
Qualities
and Skills required
  • Previous
    experience working in an architectural practice
  • Previous
    Site Supervision Experience in East Africa
  • Legally
    able to work in the country in which the position is based
  • Ability
    to understand and formulate design decisions and present for discussion
  • Ability
    to use a variety of media in the development and documentation of a design
    project
  • Good
    interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team
  • Ability
    to take initiative in response to direction or instruction
  • Ability
    to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently
  • A
    flexible and open attitude towards new ways of working and commitment to
    independent, lifelong learning
