As Programme Manager you’ll be working closely with the local team of staff and Trustees to manage the distribution of computers and develop the programme in Malawi. This is very much a practical hands-on role.
The scheme operates on a cost-recovery / social enterprise model, charging the schools a small fee and selling some of the computers on the open market to cover running costs. So to be effective in this role you will need the range of skills and commercial acumen involved in running a small business.
In particular, you will need some knowledge and demonstrable practical experience of the following:
– business planing
– marketing
– basic accounts, e.g. bookkeeping, cash flow forecasting
– people management and HR
– IT
– logistics
You’ll need to be a confident, self-starter, capable of working with the minimum of supervision and support. Ideally, you will already have some experience of working in Africa. Liaison with a range of stakeholders is an important part of the job, so good communication skills are a must. To have the desired impact, ideally you need to be able to commit a year to the project, but we would consider a stay for a minimum of six-months.
This is an unpaid position. We would provide return flights from the UK or equivalent location and living expenses in Malawi.
