IPRC-North/Tumba College of Technology is a dynamic
ñd forward technical higher learning -institution, vibrant and lively;
established in 2007 and it has the core mission of producing highly qualified
technical human resources with competent hands-on skills and entrepreneurship
culture. It currently has three departments namely Alternative Energy (AE),
Electronics and Telecommunication (ET) and Information Technology all leading
to an Advanced Diploma.

Strong external examining system will assist the
College in the comparison and benchmarking of academic standards across awards,
ensures that the assessment process is fair and fairly operated in the marking,
grading and classification of students’ performance and provide the College
with informed and appropriate points for the comparison of academic standards.

It is with this background that IPRC-North/Tumba
College of Technology is looking for Expressions of Interest from persons
interested in working as the External Examiners of the College in its three
respective departments.

II. Responsibilities of External Examiners
The responsibilities of external examiners include
the following:

- To assess the suitability and up to date of
the curriculum in comparison with the college’s mission, vision and
objectives. - To assess the adequacy of modules descriptions
elaboration in all aspects of them - To assess the correctness of credits
allocation to teaching modules - To assess whether the examinations questions
cover the syllabus for the subject/module assessed e. - Ti assess whether the examinations set are up
10 the standards required and to suggest changes where neciMa6 - To judge the standard of the awards
impartially, on the basis of work submitted for assessment, without being
influenced by previous association with the course, staff, or any of the
students.’ - To assess the, reasonability of the time allocated
to examinations papers in tandem with the required examination standards. - To verify whether the model solutions/answers
and marking schenies provided are correct and in order. - To compare the academic standards of the
College with those of courses leading to comparable awards elsewhere. - To scrutinize the marked examinations scripts
to ensure that the internal marking of scripts has been done in uniform
and fair manner. - To discuss with the internal examiners about
irregularities that may be found to ensure that such irregularities may be
avoided in future. - To evaluate the internal examiners consistency
between Continuous Assessments and final examinations marks - To bring to the notice of the Principal any
matters of serious concern arising from the assessments which may put at
risk the standard of the College’s awards. - To assess the students’ final year projects
and possibly attend some students’ presentations on The aforementioned
projects to advise accordingly for value addition. - To generate a detailed report indicating areas
to keep up and others where improvement and amendments are needed.
III. Minimum qualifications and experience required
The candidate to hand in his, expression of
interest should be in academia with a rich academic background in his/her area
of .specialization in terms of teaching in university/higher learning
institution. Specifically, the external examiner should:

- Be an individual working in higher learning
institution or university - Have at least 3 years experience as an external
examiner and at least 5 years in designing and operating a variety of
assessment tasks appropriate to the subject, and operating assessment
procedures at university or higher learning institution - Be conversant with courses delivered either in
Alternative Energy, Electronics and Telecommunication or Information
Technology depending on the department in which he/she applies to be an
external examiner. - At least have a rank of a Lecturer and
preference will be given to candidates with a professorial rank - Be competent and have experience, in relation
to the enhancement of the students’ learning process. - Having a vast knowledge and experience in TVET
sector is an added advantage. The Expression of Interest including a cover
letter and detailed curriculum vitae should be addressed to the Vice
Principal Administration & Finance IPRC-North / Tumba College of
Technology and submitted’ to the secretariat of the College not later than
22/08/2013.
