Project Driver in Rwanda
 The
International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) – a member of the CGIAR

and resilient. CIAT conducts research for
development in tropical regions of Latin America, Africa, and Asia (www.ciat.cgiar.org).

The
Position:
CIAT
is seeking to recruit a Project Driver with the main responsibility of
managing CIAT project vehicles in Kigali and handling various clerical tasks
within the organization. The Driver will work very closely with the Research
and administration units in performing various duties that fall within the
units so as to provide efficient support to staff and the organization at
large.
Main
duties and responsibilities include:
  • Normal
    pre-drive of the official vehicles and ensure it is mechanically sound at
    all time
  • Drive
    CIAT vehicle during field activities in rural areas as directed by project
    leader and field staff
  • Ensure
    maintenance of CIAT vehicle fleet as per the set standards in regards to
    service condition
  • Cleanliness
    and reporting accidents/incidents and defects promptly.
  • Responsible
    for the safety and security of the vehicle assigned at all locations including
    during travel
  • Adhere
    to CIAT’s vehicle management policy and comply with rules and guidelines
    of the institute, including good logbook keeping
  • Running
    general office errands – payments of official bills, official document
    delivery etc.
  • Assist
    with office duties such as filing, clerical duties, photocopying
Required
competencies, skills and experience:
  • High
    School or College Certificate or Diploma
  • Driver’s
    license class B, C or higher and a certificate of good conduct
  • A
    minimum of 5 years’ experience driving 4 X 4 in rough terrains
  • Basic
    mechanical skills
  • Basic
    computing skills with knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Good
    written and oral communication skills
  • Fluent
    in spoken and written English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Ability
    to work independently with minimum supervision
Terms
of employment:
The
position is nationally recruited and will be based in Kigali, Rwanda. The
contract will be for an initial period of two (2) years, subject to a probation
period of three (3) months, renewable depending on performance and availability
of resources.
